The third set in the series sees Adam Reed Tucker move away from his native Chicago and take inspiration from one of New York’s finest art deco structures, the Empire State Building.

As well as taking on a new location to previous editions, the model is also constructed of golden coloured bricks, giving the model a slightly more glamorous feel than previous editions. Overall, the construction is a simple one, with the kit containing just 77 pieces and taking less than 15 minutes to construct.
When finished, the model stands at around 18cm tall on a base width of 8cm. As such the building fits perfectly with the previous two Chicago based releases, the Sears Tower and John Hancock Centre. The compact size of the models also mean that such a collection can be displayed on even the smallest of desks or offices elegantly.
As has become the set format, the kit contains an informative illustrated booklet which serves the dual purpose of instruction booklet for the model and mini-guide to the building. The enclosed booklet is well researched and includes a plethora of key statistics and high quality images and photographs.
Lego Architecture Empire State Building – Who Will Buy It?
The Lego Empire State Building is nothing if not elegant and will appeal to a wide range of buyers, including visitors of the building, art deco fans and those with a general interest in architecture and landmarks.
The Lego architecture series is not known for its playability and is firmly aimed at the adult, rather than children’s, market. For a fun addition, the Lego monkey hangs nicely off the top of the tower for that King Kong recreation. However, at around $19.99 in the US or £19.99 in the UK, the model is probably more likely to be purchased by the collector than the person looking for a Lego set to play with.
For the more serious collector, the building is one of the most elegant in the series yet and will bring a touch of art deco glamour to any office desk or study.
So, if a simple model to bring a bit of the New York spirit into the office or study is what you are looking for, this is the model for you. If playability and length of construction time are more important, then give this set a miss.
