The eighth building in the series sees Adam Reed Tucker and the Lego design team return to New York and the art deco period for inspiration. Here, set 21007 represents the Rockefeller Center in Lego format.
Lego Rockefeller Center – What’s In the Box?
With 240 pieces, the model has significantly more bricks than earlier sets in the series, giving a slightly longer build time. That said, the model can still be completed in less than half an hour by anyone who has played with a Lego set before.
Like its art deco cousin, the Empire State Building, the set is composed mostly of golden yellow coloured bricks, giving the set an extra level of sparkle compared to many of the other buildings in the series. In addition, the use of flat strip sections on the outside of the building has allowed the designer to recreate the unique outer texture of the building's glasswork without losing the solid effect seen in the series so far.
From a scale perspective, the Rockefeller Center is slightly larger than earlier models; however, the building is still compact and generally fits well with the rest of the series. As with all models in the series, the model comes with an informative booklet which doubles up as both an instruction manual and research resource for those interested in the construction and statistics associated with the Rockefeller Center.
Lego Rockefeller Center – Who is the Set For?
As with all the Lego architecture sets, this is clearly aimed at the adult market as is reflected in the price at $39.99 in the US and £34.99 in the UK. Despite this, the building does have a slightly longer construction time than previous models in the series, although playability is still limited, making the model of little interest to the children’s market. The set will be most appealing to tourists who have visited New York, fans of the art deco period and those interested in architecture in general.
While the set is slightly bigger than previously models, the finished item would still look well displayed in any home study or office. Naturally, the set looks well displayed next to the Empire State Building set, but it also fits in well with the series as a whole.
So, if you are looking to start your Lego architecture collection, but looking for a model that will take just that little bit longer to complete, the Rockefeller Center may just be the set to get you on the way.
